DML Morning Briefing Tues. Feb. 16: Cuomo defiant amid nursing home scandal, War on Whites, and more…
By Team DML
Today is February 16 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion.
1 – Defiant Cuomo Continues To Blame Feds, Nursing Homes For Death Toll
During a press conference on Monday, a defiant New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo blamed the federal government and the nursing homes for the coronavirus death toll in his state.
Cuomo insisted he had followed federal guidelines when he ordered nursing homes to accept COVID-19 patients once they were discharged from hospitals.
Cuomo started off his press conference by declaring that most nursing homes already had patients infected with coronavirus, due to by staff coming in to work each day, or by visitors, and not because patients were transferred there from hospitals.
“People died alone. It was horrific. And then the void in information we created started misinformation, disinformation, conspiracy theories… The truth is everybody did everything they could,” Cuomo reasoned, dismissing all blame.
The governor also blamed a “toxic political environment” where everything gets politicized and facts distorted, and said he wants to make sure people have “all the facts.”
Cuomo claimed that both the DOJ and New York State legislator asked for information on nursing homes last August, and said they had to pause the request from the state in order to give priority to the DOJ request.

2 – Rep. Eric Swalwell calls for a ‘White Nationalism Task Force’
While speaking about the Jan. 6 Capitol riot in an interview with MSNBC on Monday, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) said both an independent commission and a “white nationalism task force” is needed to investigate the riot.
MSNBC anchor Katy Tur asked Swalwell, “So is the House going to just wipe their hands of this now and move on or will there be a 9/11 style commission looking into how it will happen? Is there more investigating that will be done?”
Swalwell said, “There is no moving on. January 6th is a day that we will sadly all remember. I think we have to take an approach that we took like after September 11 and root out white nationalism and terrorism from our country. I believe we need a September 11 commission taken outside of Congress. I think it should be an independent commission outside of Congress.”
Tur brought up the top again of investigating “white supremacy and white nationalism,” asking, “Do you think the intelligence committee should make a shift towards focusing more on that… rather than on focusing on international terrorism? Is domestic terrorism something that needs to be taken seriously, given what we saw on Jan. 6?”
“They’re going to have to do both,” Swalwell replied. “They are going to need, I believe, at the Department of Justice, a white nationalism task force to make sure they’re understanding at the earliest of ages how people are being radicalized. If there are in fact training camps. In our evidence we found that the Oath Keepers a group in particular, that they do have training camps and an initiation process very much like international terrorist groups do. So we have to use all of the tools and the resources we can to find these groups and defeat these groups and bring them to justice in the courts.”
DML: Here we go… it’s an all-out assault on Trump supporters and white people!
3 – Biden Pentagon Pursues Leftist Domestic Agenda
Breitbart reports: The Pentagon, in the three weeks that Joe Biden has been president, has turned the department’s attention from outside threats towards potential threats from inside the military.
Former President Donald Trump’s first military priorities were to rebuild the military, defeat the Islamic State, and focus on the threat from China. For this, he chose retired Marine Gen. Jim Mattis as his first defense secretary. Trump’s first military-related executive orders were to rebuild the armed forces and to establish new vetting measures to keep “radical Islamic terrorists” out of the U.S. — which critics panned as a “Muslim ban.”
President Joe Biden, in contrast, while continuing the focus on China, has taken a number of actions to promote social justice inside the Pentagon. His first military-related executive order was to overturn Trump’s transgender policy. Biden chose retired Army Gen. Lloyd Austin as his defense secretary, the first African American to serve in that position. Austin vowed during his confirmation hearing to rid the military of racists and extremists, directed military leaders to assess sexual assault prevention efforts, and has ordered a department-wide stand-down for commanders to address extremism with troops.
Austin has also taken a number of steps to advance Biden’s progressive agenda. He directed the Pentagon to consider climate change in all war-game planning, risk assessments, and future defense strategy. He has also directed everyone on a Department of Defense property to wear masks. He also has fired everyone serving on a defense board in order to purge Trump appointed-members.
Retired Army Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer, who has previously worked for Austin in Central Command, said there have been problems with individuals in the U.S. military since its beginning, but that there is no systemic issue with white supremacy, and he worries the military will try to find evidence to prove there is.
DML: Is Biden trying to turn the military against conservatives?
4 – CNN’s Lemon: Harris Didn’t Bail People in Minneapolis Out, She Just Tweeted about a Fund to Help Post Bail, ‘Which Is Entirely Legal’
Breitbart reports: On Monday’s “CNN Tonight,” host Don Lemon reacted to Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R-SC) argument that Vice President Kamala Harris could be impeached under the same standard that President Donald Trump was by saying that Harris was tweeting support for a fund that “helped people post bail if they were arrested while protesting.” And “There was no bailing out, right? Kamala Harris tweeted about a fund to help people post bail, which is entirely legal.”
Lemon said, “Graham insists anything Trump said leading up to the deadly insurrection is what Graham calls, and I quote here, ‘politically protected speech.’ Tell that to the family of Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who lost his life after defending lawmakers and our democracy. Well, yesterday, on state TV news, Graham not only defended the former president, claiming the trial was unconstitutional, he threatened someone else with impeachment.”
After playing a clip of Graham stating that Harris could be impeached under the standard that Trump was, Lemon stated, “After the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis last spring, thousands of people, including Black Lives Matter supporters, took to the streets. Kamala Harris tweeted support for donations to the Minnesota Freedom Fund, which helped people post bail if they were arrested while protesting. So, let’s set the record straight. There was no bailing out, right? Kamala Harris tweeted about a fund to help people post bail, which is entirely legal.”

5 – Pa. Democrat Brian Sims, who harassed pro-life teens in 2019 video, announces lieutenant governor run
Fox News reports: A Pennsylvania state lawmaker who made national headlines in 2019 for harassing pro-life demonstrators announced he is running for lieutenant governor on Monday.
“I think every day about the values my Army officer parents instilled in me. To take responsibility, to show empathy, to have courage and to be authentic,” Brian Sims said in his launch video. “I want to put those values to the direct service of the commonwealth.”
The Democrat faced backlash in 2019 for harassing a woman and offering $100 to anyone who doxed teen girls praying outside a Philadelphia Planned Parenthood.
“What we’ve got here is a bunch of protesters, a bunch of pseudo-Christian protesters, who’ve been out here shaming young girls for being here,” Sims said in a 2019 video he recorded of himself. “So here’s the deal, I’ve got $100 for anyone who will identify any of these three I’m going to donate to Planned Parenthood. A bunch of White people … shaming people.”
DML: And this guy wants to be Lt. Governor???
6 – Fauci wins $1 million prize for ‘defending science’
The Hill reports: Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, has won a $1 million Israeli prize for “defending science” throughout his career.
The Dan David Foundation which is based at Tel Aviv University said on Monday that Fauci has won the prize for “courageously defending science in the face of uninformed opposition during the challenging COVID crisis,” the Seattle Times reported.
“As the COVID-19 pandemic unraveled, (Fauci) leveraged his considerable communication skills to address people gripped by fear and anxiety and worked relentlessly to inform individuals in the United States and elsewhere about the public health measures essential for containing the pandemic’s spread,” the foundation’s awards committee said.
The report notes that the award is for Fauci’s work on HIV and AIDS research, in addition to his work on the coronavirus pandemic.
