DML Morning Briefing Wed. Feb. 17: Trump vs. McConnell, GOP Rep blasted by family, Biden’s town hall, and more…
By Team DML
Today is February 17 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion.
1 – Trump UNLEASHES on Mitch McConnell
Former President Donald Trump released a statement Tuesday afternoon, in response to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s blistering speech after the senate impeachment trial against Trump ended in an acquittal last Saturday.
In his scathing speech on Saturday, McConnell blamed Trump for the Capitol riot, and suggested that Trump should be tried in the civil courts now that he is a private citizen.
Trump’s statement reads as follows:
The Republican Party can never again be respected or strong with political “leaders” like Sen. Mitch McConnell at its helm. McConnell’s dedication to business as usual, status quo policies, together with his lack of political insight, wisdom, skill, and personality, has rapidly driven him from Majority Leader to Minority Leader, and it will only get worse. The Democrats and Chuck Schumer play McConnell like a fiddle – they’ve never had it so good – and they want to keep it that way! We know our America First agenda is a winner, not McConnell’s Beltway First agenda or Biden’s America Last.
In 2020, I received the most votes of any sitting President in history, almost 75,000,000. Every incumbent House Republican won for the first time in decades, and we flipped 15 seats, almost costing Nancy Pelosi her job. Republicans won majorities in at least 59 of the 98 partisan legislative chambers, and the Democrats failed to flip a single legislative chamber from red to blue. And in “Mitch’s Senate,” over the last two election cycles, I single-handedly saved at least 12 Senate seats, more than eight in the 2020 cycle alone—and then came the Georgia disaster, where we should have won both U.S. Senate seats, but McConnell matched the Democrat offer of $2,000 stimulus checks with $600. How does that work? It became the Democrats’ principal advertisement, and a big winner for them it was. McConnell then put himself, one of the most unpopular politicians in the United States, into the advertisements. Many Republicans in Georgia voted Democrat, or just didn’t vote, because of their anguish at their inept Governor, Brian Kemp, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, and the Republican Party, for not doing its job on Election Integrity during the 2020 Presidential race.
It was a complete election disaster in Georgia, and certain other swing states. McConnell did nothing, and will never do what needs to be done in order to secure a fair and just electoral system into the future. He doesn’t have what it takes, never did, and never will.
My only regret is that McConnell “begged” for my strong support and endorsement before the great people of Kentucky in the 2020 election, and I gave it to him. He went from one point down to 20 points up, and won. How quickly he forgets. Without my endorsement, McConnell would have lost, and lost badly. Now, his numbers are lower than ever before, he is destroying the Republican side of the Senate, and in so doing, seriously hurting our Country.
Likewise, McConnell has no credibility on China because of his family’s substantial Chinese business holdings. He does nothing on this tremendous economic and military threat.
Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack, and if Republican Senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again. He will never do what needs to be done, or what is right for our Country. Where necessary and appropriate, I will back primary rivals who espouse Making America Great Again and our policy of America First. We want brilliant, strong, thoughtful, and compassionate leadership.
Prior to the pandemic, we produced the greatest economy and jobs numbers in the history of our Country, and likewise, our economic recovery after Covid was the best in the world. We cut taxes and regulations, rebuilt our military, took care of our Vets, became energy independent, built the wall and stopped the massive inflow of illegals into our Country, and so much more. And now, illegals are pouring in, pipelines are being stopped, taxes will be going up, and we will no longer be energy independent.
This is a big moment for our country, and we cannot let it pass by using third rate “leaders” to dictate our future!

2 – House Republican blasted by family in scathing letter after he voted to impeach Trump
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), one of the Republicans who voted to impeach President Trump on Jan. 13, has been disowned by members of his family because he turned against Trump.
The six-term congressman told The New York Times that 11 members of his family sent him a handwritten two-page note. He sent the letter to the NY Times, and now it’s been published for all to see nationwide.
The letter came from Kinzinger’s cousin, Karen Otto, who informed him that she and other family members are “thoroughly disgusted” with him, and calling for his removal from office after he voted to impeach President Trump.
“Oh my, what a disappointment you are to us and to God!” the letter began.
“We thought you were ‘smart’ enough to see how the left is brainwashing many ‘so called good people’ including yourself and many other GOP members. You have even fallen for their socialism ideals! So, so sad!” Otto wrote.
“It is now most embarrassing to us that we are related to you. You have embarrassed the Kinzinger family name,” she wrote. Otto concluded her letter by telling Kinzinger, “President Trump has done more for the American people in four years than you, the Rinos and Democrats have done in years!!”

3 – Biden confirms he wants pathway to citizenship for ’11 million’ illegal aliens
Fox News reports: The White House on Tuesday reaffirmed that President Biden backs a controversial plan to create a pathway to citizenship to at least 11 million illegal immigrants — as the White House and congressional Democrats are expected to formally unveil a sweeping immigration bill as soon as this week.
The proposal, sketched out by the administration on Inauguration Day, would include an 8-year path to citizenship for illegal immigrants — a path that includes a five year path to a green card and a three-year path to citizenship after background checks and other steps.
It would also give farmworkers, along with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) immediate green card eligibility. They would then be eligible for citizenship three years later.
Here’s what Biden said at a CNN town hall Tuesday night:
Over 78,000 illegal aliens were apprehended at the border in January. CBP said they averaged about 3,000 arrests per day in January.
Also in January, CBP encountered 5,871 kids at the south-west border without a parent or legal guardian.
Biden to use “more inclusive” immigration terms
Axios reports: According to an email sent Tuesday to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services officials, acting director Tracy Renaud recently signed a memo encouraging the “more inclusive language in the agency’s outreach efforts, internal documents and in overall communication with stakeholders, partners and the general public.”
- Replace the word “alien” with “noncitizen”
- Replace “illegal alien” with “undocumented noncitizen” or “undocumented individual”
- Replace “assimilation” with “integration or civic integration”
4 – Biden vows to focus on ‘demented’ and ‘dangerous’ white supremacists, claims former military, police fueling ‘growth of white supremacy’ groups
Biden said at the CNN town hall that white supremacists are “the most dangerous people in America” and the “greatest threat of terror in America is domestic terror.”
5 – Joe Biden says majority of K-8 schools WILL be open five days a week by end of his first 100 days – and says there could be an extra summer semester to make up for lost time
When questioned about Jen Psaki’s statement last week that at least half of schools would be open for one day a week, Biden said, “It was a mistake in the communication.”
Now he wants all K-8 students to start back to school in the SUMMER.
6 – More from Biden’s CNN town hall:
When are we going to get back to normal?
Biden at CNN town hall: “A significant number (70%) need to be vaccinated – by next Christmas I think we’ll be in a very different circumstance than we are today.”
“A year from now, I think they’ll be significantly fewer people having to be socially distanced and wear masks… but we don’t know.”
Biden claimed there was no vaccines available when he came into office
It is presumed he meant there was no stockpile of vaccines available, but that claim is being hotly contested. He is catching major backlash over the statement.
Biden also said “No one should go to jail for a drug offense:
Biden defends China, says “culturally there are different norms in each country that their leaders are expected to follow.”
