DML Morning Briefing Fri. Feb. 19: Media erupts over Cruz trip, Biden’s ‘open borders’ plan, and more jaw-dropping news.
By Team DML
Today is February 19 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion.
1 – ABC ‘World News Tonight’ gives Cruz Cancun fiasco four times more coverage than Cuomo nursing home scandal
Fox News reports: ABC’s “World News Night” devoted roughly four times more coverage Thursday to the Cancun controversy surrounding Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, than the growing legal problems faced by Democrat New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
With Texans still struggling following deadly winter storms that have devastated the state’s power grid, Cruz landed in hot water late Wednesday after pictures emerged on social media showing him and his family flying to Mexico for vacation. Cruz flew back to Houston the next day amid the backlash.
Meanwhile, Cuomo’s administration is reportedly under investigation by the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn after critics accused officials of covering up the true number of COVID nursing home deaths in the state. Early in the pandemic, the governor ordered assisted living facilities to accept COVID-positive patients in order to keep hospital beds free.
World News Tonight” dedicated nearly four minutes to the GOP senator’s round trip snafu and just 55 seconds to the Democrat’s growing legal controversy.
NBC’s “Nightly News” similarly gave Cruz more coverage during its broadcast than Cuomo, devoting two minutes and eight seconds to the senator and one minute and 41 seconds to the governor.
CBS’ “Evening News” was the only network evening news program to dedicate more time to the nursing home scandal, giving it nearly two minutes as opposed to the one minute and seven seconds it devoted to the Cancun episode.

2 – ICE officers will need pre-approval before arresting some illegal immigrants under new rules
Fox News reports: Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers will need preapproval from managers to arrest some illegal immigrants if they do not fall into narrow categories, due to new guidance released Thursday.
Under the new guidance from the Biden administration, ICE would focus on three categories of immigrants: those who pose a threat to national security; those who have crossed the border since Nov. 1, and those who committed “aggravated felonies.”
The guidance is temporary, lasting three months, until the Department of Homeland Security can issue further guidance. Officials said the guidance does not explicitly prevent anyone from being arrested or deported. Instead, it directs resources at certain targets. However, field officers seeking to arrest someone outside of those three categories would need approval from their chain of command.
The new guidance also requires ICE to submit weekly arrest reports to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
DML: Basically deportations have ended.
3 – Biden Plan Brings Deported Illegal Aliens Back to U.S. to Get Amnesty
Breitbart reports: President Joe Biden’s plan to pack the United States labor market with millions of newly legalized illegal aliens and more legal immigrants would bring already deported illegal aliens back to the U.S. to apply for amnesty.
Biden’s plan, formally introduced in Congress on Thursday by Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ), would give amnesty to the roughly 11 to 22 million illegal aliens living in the U.S. today. In addition, the plan increases legal immigration levels beyond the current 1.2 million green card annual admissions.
Most significantly, the plan would provide amnesty to illegal aliens who were already deported from the U.S. by former President Trump’s administration starting in January 2017.
Specifically, the provision provides Department of Homeland Security (DHS) waivers to deported illegal aliens — as long as they have not been convicted of a felony or three misdemeanors — so that they can return to the U.S. and apply for the amnesty.
The Trump administration deported nearly 900,000 illegal aliens over the course of four years, many of whon were not convicted felons.
DML: And we’re not only ending deportations – we’re bringing you BACK if you WERE deported?!!!
4 – ICE posts announcement to illegal aliens on ‘sanctuary’ COVID-19 vaccine sites
Since the Biden administration took over last month, the websites and Twitter accounts of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have taken on a more welcoming role – including an invitation by ICE on Thursday for everyone to get vaccinated for coronavirus – regardless of immigration status.
In a Twitter post on Thursday morning, ICE gave the assurance that there was nothing to fear, because all COVID-19 vaccine sites are now “sanctuary” locations.
“ICE wants everyone, regardless of immigration status, to feel safe and unafraid to get the COVID-19 vaccine—to protect themselves, their families, and their communities. ICE will NOT conduct immigration enforcement at COVID-19 vaccine sites,” the Twitter post reads.
Along with the announcement, the Biden administration shared an old letter from the Obama administration, dated Oct. 24, 2011, which provides a list of “sensitive locations” where ICE may not conduct any arrests, interviews or searches for purposes of immigration enforcement. Included on that list of “sensitive locations” is hospitals. In their Twitter post on Thursday, ICE is now including COVID-19 vaccine sites on the list as well.
In a statement this week, an ICE spokesperson said a “limited number of ICE detainees have begun to receive the COVID-19 vaccine based on availability and priorities for vaccinating individuals in the state where they are currently detained.”
DML: Forget “Sanctuary cities”… Biden has turned the entire country into a sanctuary now.
5 – U.S. will send $2 billion to global Covid vaccine program targeting developing nations
NBC News reports: President Joe Biden will announce plans to contribute up to $4 billion to a global Covid-19 vaccine program aimed at assisting developing countries, a move officials argue will bolster American national security interests by helping control the pandemic globally.
The United States will contribute an initial $2 billion in the coming days to a World Health Organization-backed program called COVAX that supports access to vaccines for 92 countries. The remaining $2 billion will be contributed over the next two years, including another $500 million when other donor pledges are fulfilled and initial doses are delivered.
While millions of Americans are still waiting to get access to the vaccine, administration officials said that contributing the funds, which were specifically appropriated by Congress in December for foreign pandemic assistance, will help Americans by reducing the risk of further mutations that could extend the pandemic.
The move highlights Biden’s different approach to global affairs after former President Donald Trump withdrew from the WHO and signed an executive order prioritizing vaccines for Americans before helping other countries.
“We do think that it is vital to take a role in beating the pandemic globally and to really put U.S. leadership out there to do this,” a senior administration official said. “It’s critically important to surge vaccination globally, while we’ll of course prioritizing vaccinations here at home.”
DML: Guess the part about “Americans first” is totally gone now.
6 – Fauci on Getting Back to Normal: ‘Depends on What You Mean by Normal’; Says ‘Somewhere Between the Fall and Winter’
Breitbart reports: Thursday on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” White House chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci weighed in on the United States “getting back to normal” following a battle with the coronavirus pandemic.
Fauci acknowledged there are “so many things in play” before predicting a return to normalcy. He added it “also depends on what you mean by normal.”
“It … depends on what you mean by ‘normal,’” Fauci told host Andrea Mitchell. “What does some form of normality mean? Well, obviously, we have very stringent public health measures in tune now. If you’re going to ask — what about getting back to a situation where you can have theaters that might be able to have below capacity, that restaurants, indoor dining can be happening, but with moderately diminished capacity? That’s going to be somewhere between the fall and the end of the year.”
DML: Are you outraged yet?
7 – Australia took a stand against Facebook — and got silenced
The New York Post reports: On Wednesday, Facebook launched a capital strike against the country of Australia.
Rather than continue negotiations with Australia regarding paying for the news content circulating on its platform, Facebook decided to pull up stakes. Within hours, the company announced it would “restrict publishers and people in Australia” from sharing or viewing news content. This restriction was also global — Facebook users the world over would now be prohibited from posting links from Australian news publishers.
In other words, a sovereign national government attempted to assert itself against Facebook. And in response, Facebook canceled the country.
Within hours of Facebook’s announcement, the Facebook pages of Nine, News Corp, and the government-funded Australian Broadcasting Corp, which acts as a central information source during natural disasters, were blank. So, too, were the Facebook pages of major regional health departments, where a quarter of the country’s 25 million people regularly gather information regarding COVID-19.
As bushfires rage across the country, the Facebook page of the Bureau of Meteorology was also wiped clean. Regional Department of Fire and Emergency Service offices were prevented from posting emergency bushfire warnings.
Here’s a response from an Australian radio host:

8 – The “DML Walk & Talk” is back!
Inspired by the life and legacy of conservative radio host icon Rush Limbaugh, Dennis Michael Lynch announced Friday morning that he is returning to his popular Facebook Live “Walk & Talk” broadcasts.
Conservative voices and real, honest news is critical to making America great again. DML said, “No one person can ever fill the shoes of Rush, but together we have to fill the void. We have to get the truth out to people about conservatism. And if Rush were talking to me now he would tell me to use my reach on Facebook to get the word out, so I am going to do the Walk & Talks until they kick me off.”
DML said the Walk & Talk will have no specific schedule or time frame. The LIVE program will come each day at random times. DML urged people to download the DML NEWS APP from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store so they never miss an alert to when he is goes live.
