DML Morning Briefing Oct 9
By Team DML
Today is October 9 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch.
1 – Moderator of 2nd presidential debate tweets ‘odd’ message to fierce Trump critic, raises bias concerns
Presidential debate moderator Steve Scully raised eyebrows on Thursday night with a tweet that is having critics question his objectivity ahead of the second matchup between President Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden.
Scully, the political editor of C-SPAN and host of “Washington Journal,” whose October 15-scheduled town hall event had been crumbling after President Trump withdrew from the now-virtual debate, sent this tweet to former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci: “@Scaramucci should I respond to trump.”
Scaramucci responded, “Ignore. He is having a hard enough time. Some more bad stuff about to go down.”
The Twitter exchange between the two is making headlines and raising concerns about how Scully could possibly be an “unbiased” moderator, as Scaramucci is now a supporter of Joe Biden.
DML: The media and the left officially become one.
2 – 13 charged in plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Whitmer, start a civil war, Whitmer blames Trump
A total of 13 members of a militia group have been charged in connection with a plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D), which federal records released Thursday indicated were allegedly part of a plan to raid the state capitol in Lansing.
Members of the group Wolverine Watchmen planned the plot as part of a larger mission to start a civil war, federal authorities said. According to reporting by the Detroit Free Press, the FBI and the Michigan attorney general filed felony domestic terrorism charges against group organizers.
Six men involved with the plans to kidnap Whitmer were charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping. Seven other defendants face charges of providing material support for terrorists acts and felony firearm possession.
Following an announcement of the arrests Thursday, Whitmer, in a livestream address, blamed President Trump for his failure to denounce certain extremist groups during the first presidential debate, which the governor argued served as a “rallying cry” for the militia group that planned to kidnap her.
DML: Whitmer just stooped to a new low.
3 – Progressives, including the ‘Squad,’ release agenda to push Biden to the left
A group of progressives, including the freshman “Squad,” unveiled their new vision for America on Thursday that will serve as a rallying cry for the election and a roadmap on how to push Joe Biden leftward.
The Working Families Party “People’s Charter” calls for free public healthcare, universal childcare, creating millions of green jobs, canceling student debt, a $15 minimum wage and shifting money away from police departments and toward investments in schools and communities.
One of the plan’s backers, Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., said the agenda will be the legislative blueprint for what progressives in the House will push during a Biden-Harris Administration.
The Working Families Party National Director Maurice Mitchell released this statement: “We’ve always said that electing Joe Biden was a doorway, not a destination. The People’s Charter is that destination: a nation that cares for all of us, no matter what we look like, where we come from, or how much money is in our pockets. We’re going to beat Donald Trump on Nov. 3, and then we’re going to organize to make the vision outlined in the People’s Charter a reality.”
DML: “Joe Biden was a doorway, not a destination.” There’s your answer.
4 – Trump imposing nearly $2B tariffs to fight dumping of goods in U.S. markets
U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross on Friday announced the U.S. will collect tariffs on $1.96 billion worth of aluminum sheet from 18 countries after determining the goods were being unfairly dumped in the country, the broadest trade enforcement action by the agency in more than two decades.
The tariffs on 18 nations, which include Germany, Bahrain and Oman, will go into effect immediately, even though the department’s determination was preliminary, Ross said. The U.S. International Trade Commission is expected to make the final determination in February 2021, he said.
“This is the largest and most far-reaching case that our department has brought in more than 20 years,” Ross said Friday morning during an interview with FOX Business’ Maria Bartiromo.
Brazil, Croatia, Egypt, Greece, India, Indonesia, Italy, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan and Turkey were also affected.
DML: Bring back “Made in the USA.”
5 – Furious homeowner confronts BLM rioters attacking HOMES and apartments.
Black Lives Matter supporters have attacked HOMES in a Milwaukee suburb, smashing windows on a quiet residential street after a black cop was cleared in the shooting death of an armed black teenager.
The violence followed a district attorney’s decision on Wednesday that police officer Joseph Mensah was justified when he shot Alvin Cole on February 2, after the 17-year-old fired a stolen handgun outside Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa.
After nightfall on Wednesday, demonstrators smashed out storefront windows in Wauwatosa before marching down a residential street and hurling large rocks through the windows of homes, according police.
Videos of one property owner are going viral after he came out to confront the protesters. “Do you have any idea how many Democrats, how many MPS teachers, union members, other people that support you live on this street?’ shouts the man.
The man, identified as Jason, a Trump supporter, later spoke to a reporter. This is a must-watch:
DML: The insanity has reached the limits, and Americans aren’t taking it anymore!
